The Third Order is for those laity who feel drawn to the spirit and practices of the Canons’ religious life and wish to be more fully associated with and incorporated into the life of the Priory. The group meets monthly for a meal and a spiritual conference by the chaplain, and has daily prayer and ascetic requirements. In addition, there are four day retreats, festal Masses, pilgrimages, and other opportunities for spiritual growth.
Those eligible are any confirmed Catholic 18 or older. The formation process is six months postulancy, 18 months novitiate, 3 years simple profession, followed by definitive profession. During these periods, the candidate, together with the chaplain, determine whether the person is consistent in the practices of prayer and discipline, and whether he/she feels drawn to the person and writings of St. Augustine of Hippo.
For the year of September 2021 – June 2022, we are reading two books: The Holy Bread of Eternal Life: Restoring Eucharistic Reverence in an Age of Impiety by Peter Kwasniewski, and The City of God, Books 20-22 by Saint Augustine.
